Chinese chrome ore importers watching the market
BEIJING 29 Jun 11 - Currently most Chinese importers are watching chrome ore market due to the possible price decrease further in the near future and quite weak demand from consumers. A trader in Shanghai reported to Asian Metal that they have no intention of importing chrome ore, as it is still hard to sell the stocks on hand and Chinese chrome ore market keeps going down. According to the source, he got offers of about USD310/t CIF China for Turkish concentrate chrome ore 46-48% and about USD290-295/t CIF China for Turkish lumpy chrome ore 40-42%. "I think chrome ore prices would go down to about USD250/t CIF China in the near future," said the source. He got offers of about USD280-285/t CIF China for Pakistani lumpy chrome ore 40-42% recently. "It is not a good chance to import chrome ore due to the obvious price decrease further," said the source. He disclosed that the offer for Omani lumpy chrome ore 30-32% is at about USD150/t CIF China for the moment. "Many chrome ore mines that suspend or sharply decrease their outputs have to undersell their stocks due to cash flow problems," said the source. Another trader in Shanghai informed that although they got many offers from foreign suppliers, it is impossible for them to purchase any chrome ore. "I think the current price of South African concentrate chrome ore 40-42% has decreased to below USD230/t CIF China, but many buyers are not interested in purchasing the material," said the source. He disclosed that international chrome ore market would go down further due to the decreasing price of Chinese high carbon ferrochrome. "I expect chrome ore market to become clear in late August," said the source.
